This was first published, thus the first issue by Aylott and Jones in 1846 of one thousand copies, but it failed to sell in any numbers, in fact only thirty nine copies were sold. Spine is embossed with geometric blind entwining bands and gilt title lettering, with full stops. Dark green cloth faded to light brown at the extremities & spine, front and rear boards stamped with a blind wide border with a A decorative almost floral design around the outside containing a Lyre embossed in the resulting center panel. It includes the often missing errata slip, this second issue is the same as the first issue except for a Smith, Elder catalogue of "Prose Fiction bound in at the rear which is in all second issue copies.
